Quick post here about one of my "must reads", a fun, funky little hottie who calls herself Raymitheminx. Her blog is endlessly entertaining, funny and informative, in its own way. Did I mention that she's hot? Never mind the fact that she's young enough to be my daughter (hey, her mom's hot too..), she's a great read and a refreshing change in the bore-o-sphere, and funny as hell.

She's gotta be part svenska, could be finn or dane though, she has the attitude.

She's vying for top spot in the "peoples choice award" and so far is delivering the mother of all ass kickings to anyone else in the category. So, I think you should head on over there and give her your support. Because I said so, and you don't mess with the hammer..

I could go on about her for a lot longer, but my wife could walk in anytime, me telling her its a "man thing" is pointless, and I still want to get some tonight..

Since the eco-nuts want us to stop eating meat to save the planet, using the logic that if we do, less C02 farting bovines will be wandering about farting and belching us all to a scorched earth.

So, following this same line of reasoning, since we are still in a *more or less free country, those of us that refuse to stop eating meat should be encouraged to hunt, should we not? Using this same logic, every time I whack bambi or bullwinkle, I take a C02 emitting critter out of the equation, fill my freezer, thus don't have to buy sides of beef, so one less bovine is also out of the equation, a double bonus!

If I am shrinking my carbon footprint by whacking wildlife for food, then I think hunting should be strongly encouraged, license fees dropped and tags thrown in gratis as well. That alone would save me over a hundred shekels yearly!

So I guess I have to change my profile now, as of last week hitting the 1/2 century mark.

I don't feel THAT different, and it's a total coincidence I've taken up running a few km's a day now.
Yeah I'm trying to slow down the clock, but who doesn't at this age? I remember too clearly from my logging camp days the guys this age hacking and wheezing in their bunkhouse rooms with several bottles of med's on their desk and don't want to end up like that.

My wife is still in her 30's and THAT feels pretty cool! Even if is is only for another 13 months..

Been awhile since I've been here, and what better time than 2:43am to sneak in a quick post.

I'm sitting here rather bemused. #2 son asked if he could go out with some bud's tonight, I reluctantly said yes, because he had been out lots of other times and returned ok. He's 16, and I knew this day was coming with this one. #1 son never put me through this, was more like me at that age, not overly social, small circle of friends, and was VERY good at hiding my activities from my parents, and didn't really start partying to excess until around 17-18ish

#2 son though, a different story, highly social, tons of buddies, etc.. He said he'd be home "around midnight", which means pushing the envelope past 12:30.

Anyway, 1am passes, then comes 2am and I'm getting pissed. I'm not one that can just go to bed. 2:30 comes along and his buddies vehicle pulls in the driveway. I have the outside lights on so I'm 1/2 expecting him to come in the door quite sheepishly when I hear voices and the basement door open. I go to the top of the stairs and open the door and call his name, and hear some muffled voices. I go downstairs and there's two of his buddies helping him in his room with a look of utter shock and fear when they see me. They immedietly assure me that "he'll be ok now", and were trying to get him in his bed as quietly as possible. One leaves and the other is staying overnight, he says he's sorry etc.. and I tell him not to worry about it and ask if it was hard stuff he was into and he says no it was just a keg party. At this point he's still barfing what little is left in his stomach into a bucket I brought down so I can see he'll survive.

I'm pissed, relieved he's home, pissed I have to stay up some more, and glad those days are long gone.

I'll say one thing about his buds though, pretty thoughtful, the one staying over is keeping a close eye on him as I write this and at least they saw fit to get him in his bed, albeit rather sneakily, but who wouldn't, and it's a hell of a lot more than we would have done for a drunk buddy at that age.

We'd have propped a drunk buddy like that up against his parents door, rang the door bell and fucked off tout-de-suite. I know, because we had done this a few times.

So here I sit, drinking one more beer than I wanted too tonight and the only solace I have is thinking about what gawd awful chores I have that will need doing very early tomorrow, which is supposed to be about 30C or so...

Bring back memories anyone?

Forouz Raja'ee-Far, secretary general of the Headquarters for Honoring the Martyrs of Islam World Movement, said the former $100,000 prize for carrying out the execution ordered by Imam Khomeini in 1989 has now been increased to $150,000, the Fars News Agency reported Monday.

Rushdie sparked outrage in many Muslim countries with his novel "The Satanic Verses," which was seen by some as insulting to the Islamic faith and led to the fatwa issued against Rushdie on charges of blasphemy.

The bounty increase follows the Queen of England's bestowal of knighthood on the Indian-born author.

"According to Imam Khomeini's verdict, it is an obligation for all Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie even if he repents from the bottom of his heart and becomes the pious man of the time," Raja'ee-Far said.

Tuesday night nettles

With a hat tip to the gang at Dust My Broom, I'm doing some plagiarizing here and sharing one of my fave spring rituals. Which is, the harvesting and consumption of Urtica dioica or what we all know as stinging nettles. Yesterday evening I raided the patch I have been cultivating the past few years (they aren't as prolific here in AB as they were in the Fraser Valley) and had my first delicious feed.

I am still surprised that most people up here have never eaten this succulent wild delicacy. I get dumbfounded stares of amusement when I tell my co workers how good these little stinging demon plants taste. So here you go:

Pick these little beauties when they are a few inches tall, use shears or scissors and a glove. You can hang on the to leaves carefully but there is still a mild sting so beware. If they are taller than 6" just clip the top 4-5" off (and some the large leaves if you like). They'll grow like grass once decapitated so you can keep harvesting the same patch.

Fill a large bowl or paper bag and give them a good rinse, I prefer to fill the sink 1/2 full of cold water, swril them around some and let them sit awhile. One thing about the alberta nettles is that they are slower growing therefore you have a longer harvesting window (once they go to seed it's too late) but the later it is the more likely little green worms will reside on them, which is no problem, just rinse them off. Once rinsed put them in a pot of boiling water about 1/2 full and let steep for a few minutes. You can put an oxo cube in with them if you like but I prefer them straight up. Pull the cooked nettles out with a fork or some tongs and serve hot and steaming, top with butter, salt and/or pepper, a splash of vinegar (or all 3) and prepare to enjoy the one of the tastiest and nutritional (very high in protein and vitamin A) wild veggies there is! Also, keep the water and enjoy as a hot strong tea or drink it cold.

As an added bonus, some say that they'll put more sting in your stinger!

Enough Already! OK, I'm used to the trademark gnashing-of-the-teeth and wringing-of-hands that we've all grown used to coming from the left side of the spectrum, but THIS is going to far. Now that Dion has taken the Lib's further to the left than they have ever been before, they have elevated said teeth gnashing and hand wringing to all out crying. To quote Dennis from over at Steve's, they are fast becoming the official "Mommy Mommy!" party of Canada.
Given that their leader always looks like a meek little girly-man ready to burst into tears at the slightest of slights and is always demanding that those mean old Tories apologize for one thing or another, it now appears that the rest of them are falling into line. Now the panty waisted David McGuinty is whining and sniveling because he was poked in the shoulder in the "Ugly Brawl" by Royal Galipeau.

This is getting to the point that even I am feeling embarrassed for the lib's. C'mon guys - BE A MAN!

So the two individuals that were on the bridge of the Queen of the North won't cooperate with the investigation, for fear that they may lose their jobs?

For those outside of BC, and I only recently heard this "scuttlebutt" from some of my BC friends, the story that has been swirling around the Tim's outlets down there is that there was already some "going down" going down just before the ship cranked into the island full steam ahead and started going down herself. A recent conversation I had with someone said that the union has been bending over backwards (man, this is a bad post for pun's) trying to cover these peoples asses (damn!) Now WHY does that not surprise me?

I havent been paying a lot of attention to this, but hopefully the two responsible can be called up on the carpet and legally obligated to come clear on this. Anyone else closer to the story fill the rest of us on what may happen next?

Well. I'm tired of all this teeth-gnashing and hand-wringing about how we are going to hell in a hand-basket and us conservative types are not doing anything about it. So I'm going to get off my ass, literally, and do something about it! And I've come up with an ingenious solution that will let those that like to dictate to the rest of us how we should be cutting back while they continue their lavish lifestyle, continue to do so!

Gore is onto a good thing here, and I'm only doing what he is, so you lefties can't fault me for that. Plus, the money will be staying right here, NOT vaporizing in some 3rd world carbon spewing backwater!

Anyway, the longer this post is, the bigger my carbon footprint, and I am now officially an environmental foot soldier, so check it out

I think this is timely, even as I write this the Alberta gov't is jumping on board the bandwagon because its the popular thing to do. Apparently they are going to distribute a flyer with the usual doom and gloom about the dire consequences of what we are all facing in the near future. You know, flooding oceans, plagues of locusts, no water, no air, premature orgasms, etc..

They must pick this stuff out of the air, IIRC the consensus was that when climate warms up generally water becomes more plentiful.

The Chronicle Herald is running a story here about how the navy can't afford to sail on exercises but can send a couple of it's people to Vegas on a junket for 10K.

"If they don’t have money for the operational side, which provides the security of our nation, then where, all of a sudden, did they get the money to offer two people almost $10,000 (to spend) on a three-day course in Vegas of all places?" Sackville-Eastern Shore MP Peter Stoffer said Monday.

"I think the Canadian public would question that."

The East Coast navy’s $25-million shortfall forced it to scrap exercises planned for early February with the NATO squadron."

The Herald headline makes it sound like the Navy is sending a couple of people down on a lark to Vegas while it can't afford to sail ships. Typical attention grabbing headline I suppose, but as usual there is a lot more to the story, take the headline: Navy struggling to sail but will send techs to Sin City, now whats your first impression here? I read the article, and I call it a slow news day if they need to embellish a story like this.

First off, a lot of technical conferences are held in Vegas simply because they have the facilities and the accommodation capacity. Hotels and conference centers are always in close proximity to each other, and they likely get a good deal as Vegas survives on people visiting it. Flights to Vegas are typically bargain basement as well so companies will keep that in mind when deciding how many people will attend said conferences.

Second, 10K is NOT a bad price for two people to spend three days at a technical conference. My company sends me on a 5 day conference on a yearly basis, and it is closer to $8,000 for them to send me to that every year. So $9700 total for two people is not excessive spending by any means.

Third, with the technical world changing at such a pace, if you are a specialist in this area (as I am) then you have to stay current or you are left behind. And nothing can take the place of an environment where you are conversing with and networking with peers that work in the same profession.

Fourth, they are not being given "almost $10,000 to spend" Mr. Stoffer, that is the COST of sending them. That old adage again, think before you talk!

There has been a couple of them hanging around our rural subdivision that last week or so. The dog was yapping like crazy yesterday morning so I peeked out the window and saw this. She was not at all concerned about the dog and he knew better than to get too close in the deep snow.

Pretty cool anyway, I hope they stick around, although I'll have to tell the kids to be extra cautious when they are outside as it looked like she's ready to calf soon.

I was more interested in finding more out about his famous "debate" with Philipe Rushton about his theory that placed Orientals, Caucasians and Blacks in an evolutionary hierarchy. I remember listening to that debate on the old Pat Burns talk show on CKO (anyone remember that?) , at the time my opinion on Suzuki was a lot more generous than it is now, but that was when it started going downhill. Instead of debating him on points of science like I expected, he lauched into a shrill attack wanting him removed from his post. Sound familiar?

Yet another hypothesis on the story of Christ and what may or may not have transpired in his life. This story, which by the sounds of it already has the Vatican and various others up in arms and angrily denouncing it before it even airs.

Take a pill people! One would think that with such visceral and denouncing statements people come forward with as soon as a theory like "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" or the "Da Vinci Code " movie (poorly done I thought) roughly pertaining to it comes out, that there was something to hide in the first place.

Not being one of the mainstream Christian faith to begin with, I fail to see what all the kerfuffle is about. It is indeed quite plausible when one looks at the history, that Christ *could* have married, had a family etc. So what? Yeah I know it would turn mainstream christianity on it's ear and all that, but that doesn't really bother me.

I've always been rather fascinated that people could (supposedly) base their life on the writings of others from centuries ago, be it from a mish-mash of writings from numerous scholars and relatively unknown authors or the supposed ramblings of an arab thug.

Lighten up people, its just a hypothesis for christ's sake! (oops!)

Came across this little gem the other day.

It's rather "timely" if you'll pardon the pun, as I am in the midst of checking all my various database systems for code that may be affected by the new DST almost upon us. This new daylight savings is bad enough for us systems nerds, if we all had to go to "Mecca Time" it could make Y2K preparations look rather trivial.

Anyway, have a boo at this and tell me what you think. I'm still trying to decide if this "scientist" is the fruit-fly-guy of the mid-east or just their version of Pat Robertson.

A bit off my normal topic, but I thought this was worth a mention..

I was waiting for my wife the other day in the library where she works when the title of a book caught my eye as I was leaning against a shelf. It was called "A Womans Guide to Changing Her Man". Ah HA! - Of course I, like any other man out there already know this to be fact, "this" being that once married (or otherwise settled down) we are not much more than a piece of undeveloped real estate or a lump of clay, to be improved and moulded, tore down and built up so what we are presentable and ready to do whatever bidding is asked of us.

And you ladies are well aware of this is usually easier said than done, we are not always the most cooperative lot are we? Hence books like this one, which at a cursory glance tells you things like the following:

"If we're so determined to change our men, why are we so lousy at it? For starters, when things aren't going well, we spend far too much time analyzing things to death and finding fault instead of finding creative"

"So, you may be asking yourself, "Since men don't like being changed, why read a book instructing women to do the very thing men most detest about being in a relationship?"

"That's why I'm going to teach you how to transform your man into the "new and improved" version you've been hoping for. You're about to learn effective, down-to-earth, easy-to-understand, simple-to-implement strategies for changing your man"

"Women need to learn these "male-friendly" methods of persuasion and stop doing what doesn't work"

Well ladies, I'm here to help. Reading chapter upon chapter of this gobbledy-gook is simply too time consuming and to be quite honest isn't going to work! Being an expert (a man), I could write a book about this, but the solution is so simple, it would definatly fall in the category of thin books, thinner even than a book about Stephane Dion's great moments in question period or about his popularity in Alberta.

The secret to get your man to be at your beck and call, do your bidding, let you pick his friends, you name it, can be summed up in three simple words. Yes, its true, and I'm going to tell you two of these words, you only have to fill in the blank!

First word is "more", last word is "jobs"

So here I sit on Sat morning, literally on the sask-alta border. #2 son has soccer zone finals in Lloyd this weekend and its always nice to get to a city, even a quasi-city once in awhile. This is an interesting place, getting to the multiplex involves a short stint into stubble-jumper-land (about 25' if the markers are correct) then back into prairie-chicken-land, if I may use my old BC terms for the two prairie provinces. Anyway, I told the boys last night that the indoor fields here had one goal in AB and one in SK, they werent quite sure to believe me or not, but in any case thought that would be the absolute COOLEST if it were the case!

In any case, I've been away from this blog too long and thought I'd better make a quick entry so that the 2 visitors I get per month will have something new to read. I've been thinking about Dion's f*ckwitted remarks about "easy money" as I see all the oilfield workers in their greasy coveralls lined up in the coffee shops and convenience stores getting hot coffees after spending a long day out in the -30 weather, it makes about as much sense as the dipshits assertion that it is "not good for the economy" when one finds oneself standing in a 10-20 person lineup no matter which store or coffee stop one stops at. Unbelievable...

BTW, if anyone has a link to an audio file containing Dions comments I'd sure like to have it, as well as that stunned dipsh*t Hollands, I know you can get the links to the audio vaults, but I havent figured out if those can be saved to disk or not.

This being the pathetic joke called the "justice system" and the "youth criminal justice act".

On November 19th, just over a year ago, 17 year old Shane Rolston was beaten to death by five teenagers weilding an assortment of weapons. Four of the accused have been convicted, and not surprisngly, have gotten the kid-glove treatment from our so called "justice system". Three of them recieved two years less a day conditional sentences, one of them 4 years, which translated, means as little as 16 months. The fifth is expected to bargain his way to a light sentence as the others did.

Keep in mind that four of these thugs were not young offenders, but adults insofar as the law is concerned. To quote Shanes father Kelly Rolston, "human life in this country isn't worth a whole lot."

Be it my wife for sitting down on the (sticky) rim of a toilet bowl in the middle of the night (I remind her that SHE is the one that leaves the seat DOWN, making it inconvenient for me, but to no avail) , one of my daughters being mad at me for scaring a boyfriend off (a dad's sworn duty), women are always pissed off at me for some reason or another.

Well, I guess it's not me in general, but the cutting to the funding to the Status of Women dept that has their thongs all a-twist. Now that the funding has been cut the dark ages will soon follow..

Which gets me to thinking, my carpool cohorts have a woman on their team, who because of her educational credentials makes more than they do, in some cases substantially more. In one case she makes more than someone more or less an equal as far as qualifications go. Yet I don't hear them whining or gnashing their teeth about the disparity in pay, nor are they demanding they be brought up to par with her salary. Why is that?

A better question is, how is another $5,000,000.00 of your money per year going to keep women from being continually pissed off at me?

Or is there a pattern here? Almost daily now the religion of don't-piss-us-off-or-we'll-kill-you is frothing at the mouth about yet another slight against their religion. Were it not for the deadly implications of these statements being viewed as permission from Allah himself by a seemingly endless supply of wack-jobs to kill the nearest unbeliever to avenge said slight, it would be comical. "Don't call Isalm violent or we'll kill you" or "whosoever offends our Prophet Mohammed, peace be with him, should be killed on the spot by the nearest Muslim" would be sure fire knee-slappers in any given comedy club, but these moon-bats are serious.

Funny as well, but not at all surprising is that the MSM has not jumped on this hypocrisy.

So I am doing my news scan when I get into work this morning, and I see that someone has "provoked outrage in the muslim world" yet again. Seem's thats fairly easy to do these days, does it not?

But this time it's one of the west's religious "heavies", the pope himself that is the provocateur. Not that I take this to seriously, given my religious persuasions I think he is somewhat a kook myself, but a (more or less)harmless kook, if you will.

I would think that OBL and other like minded wackjobs would jump on this though, they want a final JIHAD with the west, what better way to bring this about than to put a FATWA on old pointy hat himself? Perhaps his comments weren't inflammatory enough to warrant this, although thats hard to imagine.

Been a LONG time since I've visited here, but this is worth an entry..

It was with shock and sadness that I read about his untimely demise yesterday when I logged on the web. I was surprised as well, didn't think I would be, given the nature of his work and how many chances he took, but I was surprised nonetheless. As the day progressed I was again surprised at the sadness I felt, like I had just lost a good friend, and this feeling was a tad confusing. This was a guy I have never met or talked to, a television personality just like any other, right? But he was not like any other, for me watching him on tv was like watching someone talking directly to you, not an audience, and his unbridled enthusiasm was infectious.

I think this helps explain the unexpected sense of loss I felt throughout the day, which took me by surprise. My young daughter is a big fan of any show about wildlife, and her eyes welled with tears when I told my kids the news, the instant sadness was also very evident in the older kids eyes, although they did their best to hide it.

Godspeed and rest in peace, Steve, you'll be missed..

And here we thought our soldiers were fighting "the good fight" in Afghanistan, trying to let a people escape a backwards tyrannical system that routinely shot women in soccer stadiums for infractions as ghastly as showing their face in public, banned education for females etc..

However, in a spare moment this morning I was browsing some Sun Media columnists this morning and came across this gem.

According to Eric Margolis, female education was only temporarily banned because Communists had infiltrated the nation in the 1970’s through the school system - I'm still trying to make sense of this one, were the communists planting female spies by disguising them as schoolchildren?

OK, so lets assume this bizarre statement has some merit, after a few years and they had filtered out all the commie female student spies, they were going to throw open the doors for females again? Apparantly yes, and we just misunderstand the taliban because of the "ill informed, flag waving media"

I never read this guys columns before, and I didn't realize we had such an apologist for the islamo-fascists writing for the Sun media. For the few people that check this blog out, sorry if I have been slow keeping it up! To busy with my real job lately, and catching the olympics when I can.

Speaking of which, I just see the Canucklehead men are out! DANG!!!

IMHO I think they should yank the NHL'ers and any other pro atheletes from this competition. Now that the russians et all are all in the NHL anyway it's more a level playing field for the non-pro's. I know the whole pro / "amateur" discussion is a topic in itself anyway, but I think these games should be left to the non-pro's, especially the winter games. I used to look forward to seeing a bunch of players whom I'd never heard of before have a go at it, and thats how I'd like to see it again. The womens team is more like this, after these games many of them return to their jobs as cashiers, etc.. save for the odd exhibition game.

Well thats my olympic rant, I'm going to stay out of politics for awhile, I get my quota of that from Steve's or Kate's sites thes days. I think I am suffering from political overload to tell the truth.

So thats it, I'll try to get here as often as possible to post some musings/rants/whining/whatever - feel free to join in and/or suggest some topics you may want to discuss!

OK, the dust has settled, last time I looked there were no soldiers in the streets, and I dont think that Stevie is grooming CSIS or JTF2 teams to eliminate dissenters. Been awhile since I posted anything, busy at work/home etc.. and there has been more important matters to attend to.

I was initially upset at the floor crossing and appointment of Emerson like many others, but having gave it some sober second thought I'm thinking this was a pretty shrewd move, and Harper has shown himself to be very calculating and not one to make foolish moves. Yes, I still think that floor crossers should have to either run in a by-election or sit as an independant, but there is a time for that legislation, and it's not now. Now is the time to get an effective as possible cabinet up and running. Emerson is a good man and I think that he will deal quickly and effectively with the softwood issue as a priority. When the dust settles on this one the floor crossing will soon be forgotten.

The lib's are in disarray and a state of confusion right now, and kicking them while they are down bothers me not one iota. Make hay while the sun shines.

Things are looking good right now, Harper is playing things smart and he's always been underestimated in the past, lets give him some slack and a chance to see what he can do.

The way I see it...

Good news:

Conservatives are in and have established a beach head in Quebec
Screeching Annie was sent packing
Pettigrew was sent packing
Popular vote for Bloc was 42% in Quebec
Our relations with the U.S. are going to improve dramatically

Not so good news:

Paul Martin stepped down, thus accelerating the liberal rebuilding process
Lib's still got over 100 seats, despite having the most corrupt record in Canadian Gov't history
Belinda, Brison, Hedy and Ignatieff get in
The 40% hardcore left in my former province had a huge impact
Smilin Jack even has more clout with his leftist wingnut policies

Could be good/bad news:

Ignatieff may get to the helm of the libs, taking them slightly more to the right
Harper gets a chance to show the country he is not to be feared, and needs to keep the more radical MP's on a tight leash.
The liberals will rebuild, how long it takes may depend on what the Con's unearth in the next 6 months or so

All in all, we're ok I think. I would have liked to have seen the lib's take more of a beating, no one deserved it more than them, they deserved a much sounder flogging than the con's got under Kim Campbell but there are obviously still to many shackled sheeple as this didnt happen.

The discouraging message from the (mainly)urban electorate is: "we don't really care if you steal from us, just keep us comfy and warm and we'll vote for you anyway"

That all being said, SH now has a chance to play all of this in his favour, the electorate is not ready for another election any time soon, the lib's arent ready to fight again for at least the next year or two, so he has a good opportunity now to start with some baby steps in the right direction and show the electorate what he can do.

I was disappointed when PM did the unexpected(honorable) and stepped down, it would have been fun watching the incestuous infighting taking place had he insisted on staying.

D-Day

Today is the day, which in my mind boils down to one main issue, if you will.

Is today the day the sheeple free themselves from the shackles of liberal dogma and vote for what is right, rather than what suits them at any given time?

This should be a slam-dunk in my mind, but having two members of my extended family (in-laws) that are the proverbial dyed-in-the-wool Ontario liberals, and seeing how they think via the political discussions we've had, my fingers are crossed indeed.

If the " If Mr. Martin says it is so, then it is so" or my favorite: "you people out there don't know what is good for you" attitude is in the mainstream, and the liberals somehow pull off another win, then I am afraid that this country as we know it has just been moved from the gurney on to it's deathbed.

Like many others out west, at the start of this campaign there was a feeling of resignation, a "lets get this over with so we can get on with it" feeling, even looking forward to the anger and resentment from the west finally bubbling to the surface after all these years. Then the numbers started to look better after the xmas break and I saw some hope after all, it remided me of the first crocuses pushing their way through the dirt in March when I was living in the Fraser Valley in BC, the feeling that the season was finally changing, and for the better. Were we finally going to rid ourselves of this malady that has gripped us for the last decade? Could the public fleecing,looting and outright stealing finally be stopped? Is this country I love called Canada going to be brought back from the brink of disaster?

Like many others out here, we have allowed ourselves to hope again, but this hope is dampened with much skepticism, we have come to know the hardcore liberal mindset, not understand it mind you, but know it just the same, the thought that Ontario voters might actually take a good objective look at the issues and stop a slimy, lying, stealing party and it's equally slimy leader in it's tracks, even if the alternative was from "out west".

To me, and I'm sure many others as well, this election is very black and white, for lack of a better term:

The governing liberals have lied repeatedly to the Canadian people - this is fact.

The governing liberals have stolen money from the Canadian people - this is fact.

There has been no apology for either of the above to the Canadian people - this is also fact.

Paul Martin will say and do anything to stay in power, including pitting region against region - this is obvious

So, how are YOU going to vote?

Had a late night last night, as we were at a "Malanka" celebration, held this year a week later than normal for some reason. Thinking about it a bit though, it's timely as the origin's of Malanka are: An ancient ceremony, Malanka is the celebration of Malanka's liberation from the Evil One and is a symbol of spring liberated from the grip of winter on New Year's day. All appeal with good deeds and wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

It was great fun in any case, I haven't been to one in almost a decade, but this year my youngest daughter was in the local Ukrainian dancers and was dancing at the celebration.

I'm just watching PM in press conference of sorts in my old stompin grounds (Richmond BC) whining, begging and snivelling for votes from ANYONE , man, this guy is beyond pathetic. Normally I'd feel sorry for someone in a state like this, but not this time.

I wish I was typing this on my pc with the tuner card, I'd love a screen grab of this, the people standing behind him have to be the most dour looking group I've seen in awhile. It looks like he just passed some major gas and they are all doing their best to ignore it. The ladies on each side of him look constipated, save for the occasional grimacing scowl and shaking of the head when he talks about how Harper is going to dump childcare, Kyoto et all.

Now a reporter just asked him what his plans are *should* Harper win, the expression on his face was that of a man that just tried to fart and shit himself instead.

The topic of conversation lately my carpool has been (obviously enough) the election. Early in the election it was the feeling all to common to us in the west, was that despite all of the corruption, lying and thievery at the hands of the liberals, they would likely get back in because of the unfathomable tendency for Ontarians to vote liberal no matter how bad the stench, and the fact that the leader of the Tories is an Albertan would only reinforce this tendency. Along with this feeling of resignation there is/was also a deep seated feeling of "let them win another and lets get on with it", "it" being harnessing the enormous groundswell of Western and/or Alberta autonomy/separation sentiment that is just under the radar screen at the moment.

However the last week or so there has been very guarded optimism that perhaps, maybe, possibly this time might be different, given the polls of late. There is a good reason for this optimism being guarded, the people in Ontario might, just might, see the light this time and realize that supporting a corrupt and stealing administration any longer was not in anyone’s best interest, but would they support a leader from "out there", where "they" are more or less rednecks and have that strange frontier mentality?

Well, as some of us predicted, when it came to crunch time, it seems the sheeple cannot be counted on.

I think we should take it a step further and all contact elections canada and ask how this is happening, unfortunatly I can't find an email address to address this but there are phone numbers here

Personally I'd like to see Mike Duffy or someone else in the media look into this...

In any case, I wasnt expecting to find such an accurate description of my thoughts from a lib!, but Jeff nails it on the head here:

Martin needed to apologize for a grave error in judgment by one of his flunkies and then get back on the attack. Instead, he picked up the crap and rubbed it all over himself. And worse, he lent his support to that disgusting ad that is disrespectful and demeaning to our military.

I'm up waaay to late, local news is on and I should be in bed, but wifey says I am out of luck until I shave this 2 weeks growth off my face anyway, so I cracked another homebrew (a nice dark stout, with a hint of mandarin orange, made it for last year and just bottled it 8 weeks ago) and decided to blog away on my spankin new blog.

Anyway, I hear Annies screeching voice in the background so I reach for the remote to mute it and lo and behold, Annie is behind Laurie Hawn 7 points(42-35), but of course, she not worried.

When I first heard about the liberal candidate David Olivers bribe/job offer/KFC meal in exhange for the dipper candidates votes something seemed out of whack. If memory served me correctly, in the last go around the lib candidate was so far behind the tory it wasnt even a contest, ditto for the dipper. So I called my mom, who lives in the riding, she said she was pretty sure that the tory (Randy White) candidate at the time won by a handy margin, like around 20k or so.

So what was this guy thinking, assuming that this is all true? Did he have a massive brain-fart? Water on the brain from those weeks of relentless rain? (I know thats enough to drive anyone nuts, thats where I'm from!)

What in gods/jehovahs/allah's/buddha's/odins/pilates/oprahs name was he thinking he could get with a few thousand measly votes from the lefties? Did he have a bet with some bar buddies that he'd place second and wanted to hedge a bit?

Maybe.... as crazy as it sounds, emperor PaulPoutine rigged this so he could show us all how TOUGH and ETHICAL he is? Since he knows that riding is a write-off anyway and everyone was buzzing about how well Stevie handled a similar situation, better get on the bandwagon eh?.
Crazy I know, but these are crazy times my friends, and these guys now seem beyond desparate!!
